On Wednesday 22 May 2024, school staff from across Greater Sydney came together at the NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre to receive training and updates from DE International, and to share best practice in supporting international students.
The event featured presentations from DE International, focusing on all aspects of enrolment, monitoring, and reporting processes related to international students. School staff also heard about the latest regulatory changes and effective strategies for compliance and student support as required by the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act) and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 (National Code).
Additionally, a series of workshops covered various student programs, offering targeted advice and practical learning experiences.
Special guests delivered impactful speeches on addressing and supporting international students’ mental health, as well as staff wellbeing, emphasising the importance of a holistic support for both students and educators.
A highlight of the day was the participation of NSW Government Schools International Student Ambassadors: William Nguyen, Nicole Yang, Bella Zhou, Enning Li, Andrea Ha, YT Wong and Lucy Wu. The ambassadors shared their personal learning journeys with the school staff audience, providing valuable perspectives and insights.
The training day not only provided professional development but was also an excellent networking opportunity that saw school staff engaging with the DE International team, and with colleagues in similar school-based roles.
The networks, knowledge and tools gained from the training day empower schools to apply best practices in supporting international students.
