DE International 2023 School Staff Training Day

This week saw the return of the DE International School Staff Training Day as an in-person event for the first time since 2020.

On Tuesday 30 May 2023, over 220 staff from schools across Greater Sydney came together at the NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre to receive training and updates from DE International and share best practice in supporting international students.

“The training day provides a valuable opportunity for the DE International team to connect with school staff and both share information and receive feedback”, said DE International’s Chief Education Officer (CEO), Milton Wan.

The event attracted principals, head teachers, international student coordinators (ISCs) and administrative staff, who heard from a range of speakers, including DE International CEO, Milton Wan, Medibank’s Partnership and Commercial Manager, Sabrina Gu, and Principal of the Secondary College of Languages, Sana Zreika.

Five NSW Government Schools International Student Ambassadors: Bella Xiao; Andrea Ha; Lucy Wu; Linh Nguyen; and William Nguyen, provided event support and shared their learning journeys with attendees. During the morning plenary session, Lucy Wu spoke about how she was supported in the subject selection process when transitioning from an Intensive English Centre to high school. Hearing from a former student provided attendees with insight to the impacts of their work supporting international students.

In another event highlight, Strathfield Girls High School’s Christine Anderson shared her extensive experience as an ISC and offered tips for effective international student engagement.

“The training day could not have been such a success without the active participation of the school staff who attended, our guest speakers and the support of our international student ambassadors- many thanks to everyone who contributed to the day!”, said Milton Wan.

The DE International School Staff Training Day is an annual event.
