NSW government school student wins 2023 International Student of the Year Award – Schools

On 1 November 2023, the NSW International Education Awards were presented by The Hon Anoulack Chanthivong MP.

The annual awards recognise the outstanding contributions international students make to communities in New South Wales.

Yuet Ting Wong, a remarkable international student from Cumberland High School, has been awarded the 2023 NSW International Student of the Year - Schools. Yuet Ting is passionate about promoting positive school culture and raising awareness of mental health. As the School Captain of Cumberland High School, Yuet Ting leads and represents his cohort in the community. Yuet Ting's exemplary dedication and contributions to his school and the local community have earned him this well-deserved recognition.

Another exceptional international student, YangQingQing Hu from Turramurra High School, was selected as a finalist in the same award category.

Despite still being in high school, YangQingQing is already an inspiration for NSW international students.

Soon after he enrolled as a Year 10 student at Turramurra High in 2022, he became a member of the school leadership team, supporting school initiatives like Multicultural Days, Turrafest and charity fundraisers.

YangQingQing's impressive achievements and commitment to community engagement made him a standout candidate among the many talented international students in NSW.

This year's awards ceremony was a testament to the remarkable achievements of international students who bring their unique perspectives and talents to NSW communities. The event underscored the importance of international students in fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
